I bought a group of young people aged 10-14 for two half days of caving. I was impressed with Dave and Kevin from the off, but even more so once we got underground. The equipment we were provided with was top notch and they had chosen caves which were pitched at the right level for the group that I had got. Their knowledge of the systems we were using was outstandingly good and I felt in ‘safe hands’ throughout the experience. Both Dave and Kevin had high expectations of the young people’s behaviour however used humour to liven up the sessions , which were thoroughly enjoyed by the youngsters. I have used other local cave leaders in Yorkshire in the past, but cannot recommend high enough Yorkshire Dales Guides and will not hesitate to use them again next time we are in the area.

We found the NNAS Navigation course was just the right level of challenging and informative, backed up by friendly but authoritative presentation. We were entertained by acheivable exercises and stories attached to local features. We felt very pleased with ourselves at achieving the silver award and I’m certainly proud of my certificate.
We have been able to put our new skills into practice on an outing to Helvellyn, via Stridding Edge, when we climbed through mist and emerged on the summit in sunshine with nearby peaks poking through white fluffy clouds. The day ended well as all the party was safely navigated back to the car!
So, thanks again for a very enjoyable week end that will stand us in good stead over many adventures to come.

Hi……. Big thank you to Dave and Pam for a very enjoyable guided walk around Malham. We had a group of 14 managers all of very different abilities. We came to the Dales to enjoy the scenery and to get our Managers together. Dave and Pam split our group into two groups (one group slightly more able than the other!). We did the same walk in different directions and had some interesting pre-planned activities to do along the way. It was a great way to get our groups talking during the walk and provided a competitive element between the two groups. Some of our group its fair to say were not looking forward to the experience but by the end of the walk, only had positive comments. Proved to be great value for money and really helped towards getting our group engaged for our afternoon meeting.
Hope we get to do it again soon
    Thanks and Regards
    Simon

    Pam
Big thanks to you, Dave and Kevin for last Saturdays caving day even the snow added to the day.
Kevin once a gain was a star, great fun, informative and as ever a true professional.
We are looking at coming up again in September.

  5. ian edgat ( michelle audette booked ) says:

at quite short notice we booked ‘ 1-2 adults and 2-4 children ‘ with these guys. Dave came back straight away with a reply and so on NYE in the end 2 adults and 3 children ( great flexibility ) went down Long Churn / Alum Pot and had a great time in very wet conditions
Dave was fun for the kids but clearly in control and the way he let them lead was very empowering for them and fun ( even tho my son’s leading was rated sh*te by his peers ). A great 2 1/2 hrs, thanks again, ian

Hi Pam, I would like to take the opportunity to thank both you and Sean for such an excellent team building event you ran for us on Wednesday 23rd November. The feedback from all participants has been extremely positive. Everyone enjoyed themselves and it has really boosted team morale, so a big thank you for such a well organised event.

Many thanks for a fab weekend, I learnt loads and feel confident finding my way round using map and compass. Have to say the weather was awful but at least I know what weather conditions I can cope with. It was lovely meeting you and really enjoyed your teaching style as it made me feel comfortable in asking questions etc. All in all it was great and I would recommend it to anyone…

Attended the Navigation course-Silver level-over weekend 26/27 Nov. Horrendous weather meant real time learning. Pam is an excellent tutor with many years experience, both as a trainer and of living and working in the area. Timed walks; looking for the most miniscule caves; locating barns that appeared on the map as mere dots; these and so much more Pam took us through. Personal thanks to the other attendees, we shared our strengths and supported each other through the discovery of weaknesses. Ray

  9. Claire says:

Just finished the weekend navigation course with Pam at the helm. Warm welcome, relaxed atmosphere and positive teaching style meant that we all came through some inclement weather conditions cheerful and more capable and confident. Route planning was varied and individual exercises covered a number of areas with some unexpected results i.e. what the map says and how the ground looks with the truth lying somewhere in between! I picked up some really powerful learning points whilst having fantastic fun. Strongly recommend this course and Yorkshire Dales Guides, worth every minute!

  10. Chris Smith says:

We were organising a big family get-together in the Dales and I thought it would be fun for us all to do some caving, so I did lots of research and found Dave Gallivan seemed to be a main cave rescue expert for the area so I chose him – and I am very pleased I did!

We all enjoyed our visit to Alum Pot hugely, and the unanimous verdict is it was definitely the highlight of our entire week. And for some of us it was one of the most exciting experiences of our lives to date.

Dave and the other guide we had, Hodge, were very professional and clearly knew their craft, which reassured us all and allowed us to concentrate on having fun rather than getting flustered.

Thank you, Dave, Hodge and Pam for giving us such a great experience. It was a great pleasure to meet you all.

I will have no hesitation in recommending you to others who plan to visit the area.

  11. Garry & family says:

I just wanted to say thank you. The pot-holing experience we had with Dave was truly memorable, the children had a fantastic time and it was the highlight of our holiday. The service we received has been excellent, from the emails, advice and directions you gave us, to Dave’s tour which was superb. When we visit the area again we will be returning for another adventure and we have had no hesitation in recommending you to family and friends.

  12. Geoff Mills says:

Our group, Backabush Xplorers http://www.backabush.com had a fantastic time rock climbing and caving with Yorkshire Dales Guides. The instructors were superb and everyone really enjoyed themselves. People couldn’t stop raving about how much they enjoyed the caving in particular. They all got thoroughly soaked but loved every minute of the adventure!

  13. Nicky Hague says:

Thank you for a wonderful caving session today. It’s not every day that two ladies of a certain age decide to descend into the bowels of the earth, but it was thoroughly enjoyable every minute that we were underground. Kevin was a wonderful leader/guide/teacher/ support and we felt that we were in extremely safe hands, but extended to our full abilities.
Leading up to our caving trip, your support by ‘phone and email was also very comprehensive and reassuring so, many thanks to Pam.
From start to finish (including a doggo welcome from a little black dog) it was a great experience!

  14. Just a big thank you for the time you spent with me last Saturday. Your time and effort were greatly appreciated. GPS Day

  15. Thanks for yesterday it did everything we wanted it to with this group. It built upon the work we have been doing with them. Your way of working was excellent a BIG thanks to you both. The comments from the young people on the way home were all positive. Youth Group Caving

  16. I just wanted to thank you for our day with you. The students really enjoyed it and our staff thought it was a very positive day well organised and run by your staff. Many thanks and we will certainly return at some point. School Group Challenge Day

  17. Just a quick note to say thanks again for a great day climbing. The instructor was very patient, and we had quite a wide ability range for him to cope with. Hopefully we’ll do this again sometime.

  18. A well deserved thank you for a very enjoyable weekend of learning new navigational skills. The benefits of your knowledge and hands-on teaching methods were very much appreciated NNAS Navigation Course

  19. We have received the photos this morning and had a good giggle remembering Monday when you took us down Long Churn Caves. We had a great morning with you, so thank you very much. They have all said that they would like to do it again. In the meantime, I suspect the trip will come up in family chats quite often.

  20. Few experiences have been as adventurous and unforgettable as the caving trip in Yorkshire. I felt lucky to have a skilled guide who was extremely familiar with the cave. The trip was marvellous and I recommend it to anyone who seeks adventure while learning about the natural world

  21. Just thought we would drop you a line to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the ‘caving’ experience. It was a marvellous adventure for us townies. You were absolutely brilliant!

  22. I wanted to drop you a note to say thank you again for the afternoon, it was brilliant and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m going to put your details on our internal website to advertise a great team building activity. Team Building Session

  23. Many thanks to you all for your help – we all had a great time and it couldn’t have happened without you. This was a really big, groundbreaking weekend for us – the first time we have all gone away overnight as a group, the first experience underground for everyone, and the first chance to climb under the open sky for most of the team. Your whole approach was very supportive, professional and caring. It’s very unusual to find top level cavers and climbers who also have the patience to help guide absolute beginners – but you seem to have exactly the right ethos. High Five! Youth Group with Special Needs

  24. As we are now home I wanted to say thank you so much for a really enjoyable and useful day. We practised our navigation skills with increasing success for the rest of the week and intend to keep up the practice as much as possible. Basic Navigation Skills Day
