Special offers up to 31st March

Navigation Skills and cavingWe have several open courses and events coming up over January, February and March for navigation skills and caving at all levels and ……….

if you book one place at the full price you can have a second one for half price.

Just because it is winter does not mean you have to hibernate as it is a great time to practice your navigation skills as the sometimes more challenging weather can help you develop and gain confidence in the skills you need to go “off road”.  If you have not done any navigation before you could try an On Track Day.  If you know the basics and would like to learn how to use a compass then a Developing Your Compass Skills day is for you.  If you would like to spend a weekend learning and developing your navigation skills you could join one of our NNAS (National Navigation Award Scheme) 2 day non-residential courses. These are accredited courses and you get a certificate and badge on completion.

If you felt you wanted to be a bit more adventurous then you could try caving on a Monday evening during the school holidays or an Intermediate Caving day if you wanted to try going down a small pitch on a ladder.  If you have been caving before then why not learn some vertical caving skills ready for the warmer weather on our Introduction to Vertical Caving (SRT) course which takes place in our barn so is not weather dependent.

Here are all the dates in one place. If you are interested in finding out any more information on any of our events just get in touch

Christmas Present Ideas

Christmas Gift Voucher Example

I do not like to start talking about Christmas too soon but we sold our first voucher yesterday and had an inquiry about another the day before so I guess it really is that time of year again.

If you are looking for a present for someone who likes the outdoors then one of our vouchers could be the answer. The different events are suitable for a range of abilities and ages from 8 upwards*.

You can choose from any of our activities and either pick an advertised date or leave it open for the recipient to book when they have checked their diary. It can be an event where they can bring their friends or a place on one of our many advertised open courses. Navigation Skills days or an NNAS Course. A Guided walk  for half, full day or longer.   Caving from 3 hours Introductory Trips to learning Vertical Caving (SRT).  Climbing or a place on one of our Get On Track Days.  The Vertical caving (SRT) days are popular at this time of year as they take place in our barn so can go ahead whatever the weather.

If you cannot see an event or date you want then just get in touch.

*Some of our courses are not suitable for younger people so if you are unsure please just drop us a line or give us a ring.

Christmas Gift Vouchers

Christmas Gift Voucher

Christmas Gift Voucher

We have had lots of people buy vouchers for friends, family and even themselves over the years. It gives you the freedom to either pick a specific course with a date or let the recipient arrange one to suit them. We will post you a laminated gift voucher, approx. A5 size, to give as a present on  Christmas Day.

It might be a Caving session for up to 6 people or a Navigation Course, you can pick from our web site and then just ask us for a voucher. It’s also a neat way to avoid any price increases that may happen after 1st April so you could buy one for yourself!

All vouchers need to be redeemed by 31/12/13. Dates subject to availability. They cannot be exchanged for cash.

Great News from the Traddock about our competition

The Traddock at Austwick who provided the accommodation and meals for the Trail magazine reporters and photographer have offered a 3 COURSE MEAL to go alongside our prize of a day’s caving for two. You will just need to buy your own drinks. Its brilliant news for the winner.  Get entering now.

Competition Time – Win a SRT Caving Day for 2 people

Can you name the cave and win a day’s caving activity?  In this months Trail Magazine there is an article about caving in Yorkshire called Underground Overground. Hanna, Guy and Ben were given instruction in SRT in our barn at Stainforth and then taken down a cave where they used their new skills.  The article is well worth a read and has some good pictures.  I know we might be bias but this is a good day out for anyone with a sense of adventure.  Update. The Traddock at Austwick have now also offered a three course meal as part of the prize so you can have a good day caving and then a lovely meal too.

If you would like to win a day similar to this for 2 people then you just need to answer one question.  What is the name of the cave that Hanna abseiled into?

The answer can be found in the article in the magazine which is in the July edition of Trail and it is also on their Facebook page. If you want to know more about caving courses and trips with us then have a look on our website www.yorkshiredalesguides.co.uk

If you do not want to use the form then just email us the answer to the address at the top of the page, put Caving Competition in the subject line and tell us your full name and the answer.

The competition is open to anyone but you must be at least 16 to come on the day.  The winner will be chosen from all the correct email entries received by midnight on Sunday 10th July.  The prize caving day and meal will be arranged for a date suitable for the winner, subject to availability, and will need to be claimed by 31st December 2011.  The meal is food only and you will need to buy your own drinks. There are no cash alternatives.

Go Dales Caving Course Video

Caving group

We have now produced our first video on YouTube.   It is of the first caving trip with one of the young women’s groups with the Go Dales Project. The next session they took part in was learning vertical caving techniques (SRT) in our barn at Hornby Laithe near Stainforth, Settle. They learned to prussic and abseil up and down the ropes, traverse and pass belays. They used the ropes and platforms in our barn including our new high level traverse and wall. This is preparing them for their next trip underground when they will be using ropes to explore deeper into the cave. That’s when the real adventures begin.

An Example of a Gift Voucher

There is still time to buy a gift voucher for any of our activities with payment either over the phone or through our website.  For payment over the phone firstly send us an email with an idea of what type of voucher you would like, who for, a telephone number to contact you on and a good time to ring. This is so we have your correct email address and we can then contact you for payment. If you want to pay through the website just tell us the name of the person you want to give the voucher to in the box marked Note to Seller. We will then email you a voucher to give as the gift or you can forward it to the recipient.
